Lawmakers Urge Expedited Court Hearings in Tanzania
Members of the Zanzibar House of Representatives have urged the government to fast-track court hearings.
The backbenchers Mohamed Ali Suleiman (Mtambwe constituency) and Ameir Abdalla Ameir (Mwanakwerekwe constituency) emphasized that long delays in some cases frustrate individuals seeking justice.
Mr. Haroun Ali Suleiman, Minister of State for Constitution, Legal Affairs, Public Service, and Good Governance, stated that case handling had improved significantly.

As part of ongoing reforms in the judiciary, he highlighted the increase in staff (magistrates and judges), capacity-building initiatives, and the implementation of Chief Justice Circular No. 1 of 2018 and Chief Justice Circular No. 1 of 2024, which have improved the speed with which cases are processed.
In addition, he mentioned that a survey is being conducted to better understand the current situation.
