Tanzania Makes Progress in Anti-Corruption Efforts
In order to combat corruption, Tanzania has strengthened its legal and institutional frameworks, including the establishment of the Corruption and Economic Crimes Division of the High Court.
At the fifth Global Operational Network of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities conference, organised by the GlobE Network, held in Beijing, China, the Director General of the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB), Crispin Chalamila, highlighted the achievements.
In a presentation to anti-corruption authorities attending the conference, Mr Chalamila discussed ‘Anti-Corruption and Institutional Legal Framework in Tanzania’.
219 anti-corruption authorities from 121 countries, including Tanzania, attended the five-day conference from September 24 to 27.
In addition to sharing insights on how Tanzania’s legal and institutional framework facilitates effective anti-corruption efforts, the PCCB Director General underscored the importance of continuing collaboration with other stakeholders to achieve this goal.

“The government of Tanzania will continue to work with the GlobE Network and other regional anti-corruption initiatives to shape the future of the global fight against corruption,” said Mr Chalamila.
He emphasized that Tanzania is keen to make full use of the platform offered by the GlobE Network to collaborate with law enforcement officials from different countries. The goal is to share information, enhance investigations, prosecute transnational corruption cases, and trace and recover stolen assets.
During the conference, participants participated in a High-Level Forum (Workshop of Heads of Anti-Corruption Authorities) where they shared experiences on how governments successfully combat corruption.
Operational aspects of the GlobE Network, institutional and legal frameworks, and establishing partnerships were discussed.
The conference provided Mr Chalamila with the opportunity to meet and engage with representatives of several anti-corruption agencies, in order to strengthen collaboration between PCCB and those agencies.
Leaders from the National Commission of Supervision of China in Beijing, the Independent Commission Against Corruption in Hong Kong, and the National Prosecutions Authority (NPA) in South Africa were among those he met.
During their discussions, they discussed investigation training, asset recovery, forensic evidence, intelligence, corruption prevention, public education, tools, and training visits.
Together, the leaders commended the Tanzania PCCB’s efforts to fight corruption, in collaboration with other regional and international organizations, and pledged to continue working together.
Another development was Mr Chalamila’s courtesy call on Tanzanian Ambassador to China, Mr Khamis Mussa Omar.
Ambassador Omar welcomed the Director General and praised the PCCB’s efforts in combating and preventing corruption.
Tanzania and China have much to learn from each other, he said, stressing the importance of maximising their existing cooperation.
PCCB joined the GlobE Network in 2022 with the aim of exchanging information, experiences, and expertise in the fight against corruption.
