Tanzania Reaffirms Stronger Partnership with AMREF
NEW YORK:TANZANIA reaffirms its commitment to strengthening its long-standing partnership with AMREF Health Africa to improve medical care.
In New York, USA, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa gave the assurance during a meeting with AMREF Health Africa’s Group CEO, Dr Githinji Gitahi.
Tanzania’s progress in healthcare and the continued collaboration between AMREF and the government were discussed by the two leaders.
AMREF has worked with Tanzania’s Ministry of Health for over 50 years, strengthening primary healthcare through community health systems and training healthcare workers.
During his visit to New York as a representative of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Prime Minister Majaliwa emphasized the importance of this partnership.

By participating in UNGA79, Tanzania’s Prime Minister explored new opportunities for socioeconomic and political development, seeking collaborations and partnerships that will accelerate progress.
AMREF’s ongoing support for Tanzanian healthcare advancement was highlighted during the meeting with Dr Gitahi.
Tanzania’s maternal mortality rate has dropped from 114 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2016 to 104 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2022, a remarkable 80 percent reduction from 2016.
Achieving this achievement places Tanzania ahead of the global average of 211 deaths per 100,000 live births and the regional average of 391 deaths per 100,000 live births in East and Southern Africa, making it a leader in improving maternal health among its neighbours.
During his speech to the UNGA79 on September 27, Prime Minister Majaliwa highlighted Tanzania’s efforts to improve healthcare access for all citizens.
He reiterated Tanzania’s commitment to accelerating Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in order to ensure everyone has access to quality medical care.
After former Premier Mizengo Pinda spoke at UNGA65 in 2010, Mr Majaliwa became the second Tanzanian Prime Minister to address the international body.
As UNGA79 ended yesterday, Tanzania had used the global platform to strengthen its relationships with international partners and advance its healthcare goals.
